Dolomite: The Autobiography of JoJo

JoJo Dolomite, known as Dolomite, got into the style of  rapping at only 11 years old.

“I have always loved music growing up, but most particularly rap and R&B. Some of my influences are Musiq Soulchild, Usher, Kanye West, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Childish Gambino, Outkast, Big Sean, TDE, and etc. I grew up to listening not just one form of rap, but various forms, which has influenced my style of rapping.

Personally, I never found myself to be a hardcore rapper, but rather a logic one. In a sense, I always have done research on a topic that I chose to write about. And after I do the research, I just let the words flow out in a way to make sure my message is heard. Sometimes, it may have  took a little deciphering, but it’s just to make people think. Sometimes the message it can be  direct if the subject needs no further explaining.

Growing up in Lansing, aside from many people’s’ assumptions, was actually no easy place to live. It’s a city I’m proud of, but sometimes draw back from. Since it is such a small city, everyone knows everyone and everyone who business gets put out there is heard.  I never liked the option to have my personal life public, so as I got older, I began to separate myself. I wanted to create an image where people sees me as person who strives and accomplish every goal I set out to make.  One of the downfalls about my city is the high numbers of crime. It’s not something I wanted to add to my image or to have my music display that  I’m hard, but at the same time, I’m not gonna let anybody discredit me my family or my city.

I like the person I am or have become due to rap. As an artist, I have always strived to get better and own my craft every time I try something new. Recently, I have really tried to put a strong emphasis on telling clear concise stories with strong metaphors. I hope to one day find success in the world of music. My hopes is to get people to see my raw emotion versus just listening to a song because it’s catchy. I think I will ultimately aim to try to get signed one day but until that day come, I’m going to continue to work on my craft by making new projects while still pursuing a job in the world of radio broadcasting. At the end of the day, I am a man and always a man. I have to provide, so I would to push my music to get attention so in the future, I can provide for my family, friends, and anyone else who has helped me considerably along the way. I’m always open to working with others because I see it working as a pay off more times than none. If I give you my all, then I expect the same so neither one of our standards are met down. I figure iron sharpens iron so why not create the swords while we can. “
